چکیده

Given a set R of r red points and a set B of b blue points in the plane, the static version of the Maximum Box Problem is to find an isothetic box H such that H ∩ R = ∅ and the cardinality of H ∩ B is maximized. In this paper, we consider a kinetic version of the problem where the points in R ∪ B move move along bounded degree algebraic trajectories. We design a compact and local quadratic-space kinetic data structure (KDS) for maintaining the optimal solution in O(r log r + r log b) time per each event. We also give an algorithm for solving the more general static problem where the maximum box can be arbitrarily oriented. This is an open problem in [1]. We show that our approach can be used to solve this problem in O((r+b)(r log r+r log b)) time. Finally we propose an efficient data structure to maintain an approximated solution of the kinetic Maximum Box Problem.

Analysis of Multiple Yoffe-type Moving Cracks in an Orthotropic Half-Plane under Mixed Mode Loading Condition

The present paper deals with the mixed mode fracture analysis of a weakened orthotropic half-plane with multiple cracks propagation. The orthotropic half-plane contains Volterra type glide and climb edge dislocations. It is assumed that the medium is under in-plane loading conditions. The distributed dislocation technique is used to obtain integral equations for the dynamic problem of multiple ...

Multiple cracks in an elastic half-plane subjected to thermo-mechanical loading

An analytical solution is presented for the thermoelastic problem of a half-plane with several cracks under thermo mechanical loading using distributed dislocation technique. The uncoupled quasi-static linear thermoelasticity theory is adopted in which the change in temperature, if any, due to deformations is neglected. The stress field in a half-plane containing thermoelastic dislocation is ob...

A Continuous Plane Model to Machine Layout Problems Considering Pick-Up and Drop-Off Points: An Evolutionary Algorithm

One of the well-known evolutionary algorithms inspired by biological evolution is genetic algorithm (GA) that is employed as a robust and global optimization tool to search for the best or near-optimal solution with the search space. In this paper, this algorithm is used to solve unequalsized machines (or intra-cell) layout problems considering pick-up and drop-off (input/output) points. Such p...

Planar case of the maximum box and related problems

Given two finite sets of points X and X− in R, the maximum box problem is the problem of finding a box (hyperrectangle) B = {x : l ≤ x ≤ u} such that B ∩ X− = ∅, and the cardinality of B ∩ X is maximized. The maximum bichromatic discrepancy problem is to find a box B maximizing the difference between the number of the points of X and X− inside the box, i.e. max ||B ∩X+| − |B ∩X−||. In this pape...

Topological Relationship Between One-Dimensional Box Model and Randić Indices in Linear Simple Conjugated Polyenes

The alternative double bonds and conjugation in the polyene compounds are one of the main properties in these compounds. Each carbon-carbon bonds in a polyene compound along the chain has appreciable double-bond character. The p-electrons are therefore not localized but are relatively free to move throughout the entire carbon skeleton as an one-dimensional box. The skeleton be considered as a r...
